Emily Drive Covered Deck
A second-story covered deck rebuilt from the footings up — old painted wood out, the porch roof shored and re-supported, and the whole structure replaced in composite and vinyl.
About This Build
The deck across the back of this two-story home had reached the end of its life. It was framed, decked and railed in wood, painted a deep maroon that had weathered unevenly, and the porch roof overhead was carried on the deck's own wood posts — so the structure holding the roof up was the same structure that had to come out.
That made the sequence the whole job. We braced the porch roof on temporary raking supports, then removed the old deck completely — decking, framing, railing, posts and stairs — leaving the roof standing on its own while new footings went in. New pressure-treated posts, beams and joists were built underneath, and the roof was transferred onto the new posts before a single deck board went down.
The finished deck is composite in a soft grey, run the length of the house and closed in with a picture-frame border. Railing is white vinyl with black aluminum balusters, the roof posts are wrapped in white to match, and a new stair run with the same railing brings you down to the patio. A row of accent lights is set into the beam along the front edge.

Demolition & Shoring
The old deck taken out entirely, with the porch roof braced on temporary supports so it could stay put while the structure below was replaced.

New footings, posts, beams and joists — with the porch roof transferred onto the new posts before any decking went down.
