Permits for Pergolas & Covered Decks in PA
In Pennsylvania, any structure attached to your home requires a building permit — that includes all attached pergolas and covered decks. Freestanding pergolas over 200 square feet typically require permits in most Central PA municipalities as well.
Covered decks with solid roofs may require a structural engineer's stamp in some counties, particularly for large spans or heavy snow load conditions.
